Vijay Shekhar Sharma recently showcased a groundbreaking AI-enabled device called the Paytm AI Soundbox, designed to transform how small and medium-sized merchants manage their payment inquiries and daily business operations. The device allows users to press a button and ask payment-related questions in 12 different Indian languages, mimicking human-like interaction.
For example, as demonstrated in the video on October 8, 2025, the device responded instantly with detailed information about the total ₹11,992 received that day, including specifics about major merchants and amounts paid. This intuitive system not only improves merchant communication but also streamlines payment tracking through voice commands and interactive screens.
Built on an Android-based platform, the AI Soundbox features dual displays—a touchscreen for easy interaction and a top display for quick updates—and supports multiple payment methods like dynamic QR codes, tap, and card insertion. It is designed to operate seamlessly with Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity, catering to varied retail environments from neighborhood shops to large retail chains. The device represents its larger ambition to embed AI deeply within merchant tools, making advanced business intelligence accessible and enabling more efficient operations.

Sharma emphasized this at the Global Fintech Festival 2025, positioning the AI Soundbox as “India’s first AI business device” aimed at empowering the country’s diverse merchant ecosystem.
Beyond the Soundbox, fintech giant continues to pioneer AI in fintech through innovations like the AI Router, which optimizes payment routing for higher transaction success rates and lower operational costs, and the AI-powered “Playback” feature that turns monthly spend data into personalized rap recaps for users.

They are also developing Small Language Models (SLMs) tailored for business use cases, enabling merchants to gain CFO-like financial insights in their native languages via voice agents, enhancing accessibility for small and micro enterprises.
In sum, Their AI-driven Soundbox and related innovations mark a significant step in transforming digital payments into intelligent, accessible, and user-friendly business tools for India’s vast and varied merchant base—supporting smoother operations, better financial management, and increased inclusivity in the digital economy.
