Physics Wallah to Appear Before Delhi HC After Rival Calls Them “Sasta Wallah” Filed Defamation Case.

Date:

Physics Wallah, one of India’s leading edtech startups, is facing a legal dispute with its competitor, Scholars Den, over a defamation issue. The controversy began when Scholars Den allegedly referred to Physics Wallah as “Sasta Wallah” (cheap one) in a recent advertisement — which was reportedly shot right outside a PW coaching centre. This move didn’t sit well with PW, which claimed it was an attempt to portray their affordable education as “low-quality.”

The Delhi High Court has now sent both parties to mediation, asking them to try and settle the matter amicably before the next hearing on September 3. For now, Scholars Den has agreed not to run those ads again.

Upcoming IPO
The timing is critical, as PW recently got SEBI’s approval for its IPO and is planning to raise around ₹4,600 crore. From a YouTube channel to over 60 offline centres, PW has quickly become a major edtech brand with millions of students across India.

Latest Financials & Funding
In FY24, PW reported ₹1,940 crore in revenue, a 161% jump, though it recorded a net loss of ₹1,131 crore due to non-cash expenses. The company expects to post positive EBITDA in FY25. So far, it has raised over $312 million from investors like Hornbill, Lightspeed, Westbridge, and GSV Ventures.

Free Education Initiative
Staying true to its mission, PW has partnered with Sandiksha to support SSB families. It will offer 100% free coaching for children of SSB martyrs and 35% discounts for kids of serving or retired personnel—covering JEE, NEET, UPSC, and more through both online and offline platforms.
