Swiggy hired 2,000 full-time employees in FY25, taking its total salaried staff to 7,431 by March-end. These new hires were mainly for corporate roles, tech teams, customer support, and Instamart operations. This shows Swiggy’s strong push to build and strengthen its internal capabilities.
This increase in permanent staff does not include gig workers, like delivery partners, who are still separate and much larger in number. Swiggy continues to rely heavily on its flexible gig model for last-mile delivery while investing in full-time employees to manage backend operations and strategic growth.
Swiggy plans to expand Instamart by adding 538 dark stores by FY28, doubling from 605 in September 2024.
Meanwhile, its main competitor Zomato (which owns Blinkit) is also expanding aggressively. Zomato plans to double its warehouse network to 2,000 by the end of 2025. Blinkit, too, is scaling up fast. The two companies are now competing over speed, coverage, and market share in the quick-commerce space.
In April 2025, Swiggy signed an MoU with the Labour Ministry to expand its gig job outreach. Under this agreement, Swiggy will list gig-job opportunities—such as delivery, logistics, and support roles—on the government’s NCS portal. The aim is to create over 12 lakh gig jobs in the next two to three years. This move focuses on helping youth, women, and others looking for flexible job options across India.
Why this hiring matters:
- Strengthening in-house power: Swiggy is hiring full-time staff for important roles like tech, customer support, and Instamart operations. This helps the company work more efficiently and stay innovative.
- Gig + full-time model: While Swiggy hires full-time workers, it continues to rely on gig workers for deliveries. This mix of both gives the company flexibility and stability.
- Outpacing rivals: As Zomato and Blinkit grow, Swiggy is also expanding its dark stores, launching services like Bolt in 500+ cities, and strengthening Instamart.
- Job creation and government tie-up: By working with the Labour Ministry, Swiggy is helping people find verified gig jobs and supporting employment through government platforms.
- Smart comeback: After laying off around 400 employees in early 2024, Swiggy is now hiring with a clear focus on important areas like operations and infrastructure.
Swiggy’s move to add 2,000 full-time employees in FY25 shows the company is growing with purpose. It is building a strong internal team while still using gig workers to deliver fast. As competition heats up with Zomato and Blinkit, Swiggy is quickly expanding both its people and its infrastructure. With its government partnership, the company is also helping create lakhs of gig jobs, showing its commitment to technology, growth, and social responsibility.
Swiggy is evolving beyond delivery—building systems, creating jobs, and leading India’s quick-commerce space smartly.
