The Rise of Chandni Chowk’s Giani Di Hatti. Story of The Man Who Moved from Pakistan to Delhi

Date:

Back in 1956, there is small shop opened in the busy street of Fatehpuri, Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. There come a man with a traditional recipe and with no big dream.

His name was Giani Gurcharan Singh, and he get recenty moved from Pakistan to Delhi after Partition. With very limited money and few resources, He started making and selling rabri and faluda- Rich,Cold,Traditional Indian dessert. Everything made by hand right in front of customers. And slowly, people started noticing.

Word spread. Without any ads or marketing – but simply through its taste and quality.

One Dedicated Man.One Shop. One Recipe. Three Decades.

For almost 30 years, the shop remained just that -a single outlet. But people kept coming back again and again. It became one of those places that parents took their kids to, and those kids kept visiting as adults.

What worked for Giani’s wasn’t variety. it was consistency.

Then Came The Next Phase

In the 1990s , as Delhi started changing, so did the food scene. New cafes were coming up, and people were looking for more than just traditional sweet. That’s when the next generation stepped in – Giani Gurucharan’s son, Gurbachan Singh, and later his grandson, Taranjit Singh.

They decided to take a step forward. In 1999, they opened a modern outlet in Rajouri Garden in New Delhi (which is 15 km away from the old outlet) . This time, they added more desserts to the menu- ice creams, shakes, sundaes, and more -but still kept the original Rabri Faluda.

It was the right movement at the right time.

A Family – Led Journey That Inspired Generations

By 2007, Giani’s had opened its own production unit in Manesar in Haryana, city situated approx. 40km from Delhi , where all the products were prepared with very strict quality standards. They built a fully Tech-enabled cold- chain system to supply their ice creams to stores that are spread wide across India.

Instead of setting up stores by themselves, they followed a franchise model FOFO (Franchisee-Owned Franchisee-Operated) which helped them grow without losing their Control Over Quality.

Today, Giani’s have over 200+ outlets, with 40+ outlets just in Delhi /NCR. You’ll find their name not just in Delhi NCR anymore, but in Maharashtra, Punjab, West Bengal, Odisha, UP, Madhya Pradesh,Kerala,Himachal Pradesh,Tamil Nadu and more.

Things That Sets Giani’s Apart

What makes Giani’s stand out goes beyond a vast menu — though that has evolved well over time. From its Original Rabri Faluda and Kulfi to latest types of offerings like Vegan gelatos, High-Protein Desserts and Ice-cream cakes and much more trendy items like Zero Sugar Ice Creams ; like ice creams with Zero Refined Sugar not any cut on sweet taste,so we can say the brand has nicely adapted to changing consumer choices without losing its core Profile.

More importantly, Giani’s growth has always kind of very measured and stable. There were no shortcuts, no blind expansion Bursts. Instead, the brand focused on what it understood at the very best — maintaining its Original Taste, ensuring Best Quality, and building deep trust with the j n

In the end, Giani’s is now more than just an ice cream brand.
It definitely shows that businesses do not need to be a product of loud marketing or hurried expansion to succeed.
Often, lasting success comes from doing one thing well, staying honest to your product, and allowing the process to take shape.
