Zomato Launches ‘Healthy Mode’ That Assigns Nutrition Score To Every Dish On The App

Date:

Zomato has unveiled its much-anticipated “Healthy Mode,” a new feature designed to bring real nutrition to the forefront of food delivery. Announced by CEO Deepinder Goyal, this initiative aims to address a long-standing blind spot: while Zomato revolutionized convenience and variety for online ordering, it has until now failed to make truly healthy eating easy and accessible.

Goyal’s candid reflection notes, “We never really helped people truly eat better… if you wanted to eat genuinely nourishing food, Zomato didn’t make it easy.” With Healthy Mode, every dish in select cities (starting with Gurgaon) is now assigned a Healthy Score—ranging from “Low” to “Super”—assessed through advanced AI and nutritional data parsing. This isn’t just calories or vague health tags; the scoring focuses on protein, complex carbs, fiber, and micronutrients, setting the bar high enough for professional athletes to trust the feature. Customers see a clear breakdown of what makes each dish healthy, putting transparency and personalized recommendations at the center of the platform.

The feature is designed for rapid expansion, based on user feedback. Goyal requests users to push its limits—emphasizing that this is just the beginning of Zomato’s bold move to truly live up to its mission: “better food for more people.”

Zomato’s Previous and Parallel Healthy Eating Efforts

Zomato’s focus on health isn’t brand new. In the past, it has rolled out features like the “Healthy” section in 10 major Indian cities, offering nutritionist-reviewed menus and dietary filters, and “Pure Veg Mode” to enable quicker access to vegetarian options. The “Zomato Everyday” venture offered homestyle, affordable meals curated by home chefs. During the pandemic, it spearheaded “Feeding India” to distribute nutritious meals to millions of vulnerable families.

Recently, they launched “Zomato AI,” a Gold-member-exclusive in-app bot for personalized food recommendations, furthering its commitment to smarter, more tailored food discovery.

Swiggy’s ‘High Protein’ and Other Health-Focused Moves

Swiggy is also riding the nutrition wave. In July 2025, Swiggy launched a “High Protein” food category across 30 cities. This section offers curated dishes meeting precise dietary standards (minimum 15g protein, <700 kcal, ≥10% protein-to-calorie ratio) and sorts menu items by protein source and content. The company’s strategy highlights shifting Indian dietary preferences and a growing emphasis on informed, healthier food choices in both metros and smaller towns.

Conclusion: A New Benchmark for Healthy Eating in Food Delivery

Deepinder Goyal’s Healthy Mode push is notable for its honesty and ambition: by coupling sophisticated AI with transparent health metrics, they are hoping to redefine what it means to eat well in the online delivery era. With Swiggy also doubling down on health-conscious innovations, India’s consumers now have better digital tools—and more genuine options—for improving their everyday diets. As these initiatives scale, expect the “nutrition war” among food delivery platforms to get both more competitive and more beneficial for health-aware customers.
