HCLTech Appoints Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant as an Independent Director

On September 8, 2025, HCL Technologies (HCLTech) announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant as an Independent Director, joining the Board for a five-year term until September 2030. The move was recommended by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and approved by the Board, with shareholder consent to follow via postal ballot.

Kant’s Transformative Career in Policy and Strategy

Amitabh Kant brings decades of experience in governance, policy, and reform:

  • Served as G20 Sherpa for India, overseeing the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration at the 2022–2023 G20 summit.
  • Former CEO of NITI Aayog, where he led key innovations including the Aspirational Districts Programme, Atal Innovation Mission, and national strategies for digital infrastructure, advanced chemistry cells, and green hydrogen.
  • Instrumental in Startup India, Make in India, Ease of Doing Business, and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, which improved India’s global reputation.
  • Creator of acclaimed tourism campaigns: Kerala’s “God’s Own Country” and “Incredible India.”
