The Karnataka Govt has announced a powerful boost for early-stage startups with its Elevate 2025 program, offering grants of up to ₹50 lakh—without taking any equity stake. This exciting initiative aims to help local startups develop innovative products, scale their businesses, and strengthen Karnataka’s vibrant startup ecosystem.
Proven Success: More than Just Another Scheme
Elevate 2025 isn’t the Karnataka Govt’s first rodeo. Since 2017, the program has already funded over 1,100 startups, pumping in ₹250 crore of support. This year’s edition, which opened on Independence Day and runs until September 15th, continues that legacy with enhanced commitments and benefits—all designed to nurture innovation without asking founders to give up ownership.
What Does the Grant Offer?
Selected startups can receive:
- Up to ₹50 lakh as a grant (not a loan, and no equity dilution involved),
- Mandatory participation in an incubation program to access resources and mentorship,
- Access to leading VC networks through partnerships with NASSCOM and TiE,
- Opportunities to engage with government projects through Preferential Market Access,
- Reimbursements for patents and certifications to protect and validate innovations.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must be startups registered in Karnataka, structured as either:
- A private limited company,
- A limited liability partnership (LLP), or
- A partnership firm registered under the respective acts.
Important conditions include:
- The startup must be Karnataka-based,
- Must not be a subsidiary, franchise, or Section 8 (non-profit) company,
- Must not have received an Elevate grant in the past three years,
- The startup’s turnover must not exceed ₹100 crore in any financial year since incorporation,
- The startup should be working on innovative improvements—whether in product, process, or service—with real potential for job creation and wealth generation,
- Startups must be within 10 years of incorporation.
Special Tracks for Inclusivity: Elevate Unnati & Elevate Minorities
Karnataka is also committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in entrepreneurship. Two dedicated tracks exist within Elevate 2025:
- Elevate Unnati for SC/ST founders, requiring at least 70% ownership by SC/ST members who hold valid caste certificates,
- Elevate Minorities for minority community founders, requiring at least 51% ownership by minority members with valid minority certificates.
These tracks ensure historically disadvantaged groups get targeted support and opportunities.
How Does the Selection Process Work?
The program follows a rigorous four-stage selection process:
- Eligibility Screening: Documents and startup registration details are verified,
- Pitch Deck Evaluation: Submitted pitch decks (templates provided) are reviewed,
- Multi-City Pitches: Shortlisted startups present their ideas in front of expert juries across several cities,
- Grand Finale: The top candidates pitch to a jury drawn from industry leaders, investors, academia, and government bodies like NASSCOM, TiE, IESA, and others.
This thorough approach ensures only the most promising innovators receive support.
How to Apply?
Startups interested in applying must visit the official portal—Startup Karnataka (https://eitbt.karnataka.gov.in/en) or www.missionstartupkarnataka.org—and submit their application by September 15th, 5 PM. Required documents include incorporation proof, affidavits, and a pitch deck formatted using the government’s provided template.
What Should Applicants Focus On?
When preparing their pitch, startups should emphasize three core aspects:
- Technology Innovation: How does your product or process introduce new tech or improve existing systems?
- Efficiency Gains: Will your solution cut costs, improve quality, or allow faster scaling?
- Impact Potential: How many jobs can your startup create? What wealth or economic value does it add?
Benefits Beyond Funding: Mentorship and Market Access
Funding comes with much more than money. Startups joining Elevate 2025 get access to subsidized incubation facilities aimed at guiding product development and market validation. Importantly, the program connects startups directly with venture capital firms and provides avenues to tap into government procurement through preferential market access—a great way to build reputation and revenue.
Why Elevate 2025 Matters for Karnataka’s Startup Ecosystem
By offering generous, non-dilutive funding, and combining it with incubation and network access, Elevate 2025 removes some of the biggest hurdles startups face early on. The program encourages innovation that is not just theoretical but oriented towards tangible business outcomes and economic growth.
Inclusion-focused tracks ensure equitable growth, reinforcing Karnataka’s reputation as a startup-friendly state where opportunity is broad-based.
