Zepto Signs MoU With Labour Ministry To Boost Youth Employment; 10,000 Jobs Promised

Date:

The Ministry of Labour & Employment has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with quick commerce giant Zepto to bolster employment opportunities and youth employability through the National Career Service (NCS) portal. The MoU was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, who highlighted NCS as a crucial digital bridge connecting over 52 lakh registered employers with nearly 7.5 crore job vacancies since its inception.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the future integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced digital tools for more precise job matching based on location and skills, making the platform a one-stop employment destination for Indian youth.

Zepto’s Role and Objectives in the Partnership

Zepto has committed to providing 10,000 job postings during the MoU tenure, creating a predictable and structured pipeline of urban employment opportunities targeting youth, women, and first-time job seekers. The partnership aims to formalize gig economy jobs, offering social security and linking gig workers to e-Shram registration and relevant government schemes. Kaivalya Vohra, Co-founder of Zepto, viewed this collaboration as a transformative step toward an inclusive, skilled workforce, supporting India’s economic growth through technology-driven livelihoods.

Zepto’s Expanding Role in the Quick Commerce and Employment Landscape

As one of India’s fastest-growing quick commerce platforms, Zepto has seen remarkable growth with its revenue surging by 149% to ₹11,110 crore in FY25. The company is gearing up for an IPO funded by significant investments from Motilal Oswal and Edelweiss, aiming to capitalize on rapid urban expansion. It operates over 900 hyperlocal dark stores offering 10-minute delivery services across 35 cities, and has diversified its offerings by incorporating freshly prepared food through Zepto Cafe, contributing to higher margins.

Zepto’s quick commerce sector has become a significant employment generator, with a surge in demand for logistics, tech, warehouse management, and customer service roles—particularly for gig workers—expected to increase by 60% during the festive season 2025.

The Bigger Picture: Quick Commerce Driving Urban Employment

The collaboration between Zepto and the Ministry of Labour fits into a larger government push to integrate digital gig-economy jobs into formal employment channels. In the past year, similar MoUs with leading companies like Amazon, Swiggy, Rapido, and Quikr Jobs have already contributed nearly five lakh postings, indicating rapid expansion of structured employment within India’s evolving platform economy. This concerted effort brings dignity, legal protections, and growth opportunities to millions engaged in gig and quick commerce jobs, turning casual work into sustainable careers.

This partnership underscores how digital commerce innovation is now closely intertwined with inclusive employment initiatives, reflecting government and industry alignment toward building a resilient, skilled, and formalized urban workforce for India’s future.
